Ocean Beach, CA
If the words eclectic, hippie, diverse, Eco-conscious, proud, spirited, tolerant and laid back make up the majority of your vocabulary, Ocean Beach is a “must visit” destination. Ocean Beach (OB) is nestled away from the congestion and hubbub of the metropolitan city of San Diego. Follow Interstate 8 until you can’t go any further and there you’ll find one of San Diego’s best kept secrets.
OB is a place where time stands still, where mom & pop shops rule and corporate America has not yet inched its way into society. And that’s just the way we like it.
Lazy beach days are filled with locals and tourists alike gathered on the sand to play horseshoes, boccie ball or just sit and talk about whatever comes to mind. Most Obceans seem to have grasped the concept of working to live, not living to work.
If you are a surfer, you’ve come to the right place. Whether you visit Sunset Cliffs or prefer to catch the waves by the OB Pier, you’re sure to meet a ton of chill riders just looking for a good time. You might even make some friends out there!
Ocean Beach is also known for it’s party scene. Halloween, 4th of July, OB Street Fair are all among some of the most revered days of the year…not to mention the killer house parties from Voltaire Street to Santa Cruz. OBceans love their parties and the word “work” never enters their minds on a weekend!
Newport Avenue, Dog Beach, farmers market, the OB Street Fair…ahh…there’s so much to talk about…but that’s for another day.
If this blog about Ocean Beach caught your attention, come back and visit me tomorrow when I delve into the one-of-a-kind OB farmers market. You’ve never seen anything quite like it. For now, live life and love one another.
Peace~
